The Road to Conquering Resistance
Roman Army Strategies:
The Wedge: The army formed small groups of legions with a man in the front with a gladius, small sword. Then the men in the back of the formation wield the Celtic and Germanic swords, which are longer versions of the gladius. Allowing an easier march down the battlefield.
The Tortoise: A tactic to keep all soldiers in a group of soldiers safe. It's like a huddle, where are the shields are held out so it looks like a tortoise.

Skirmishing Formation: More widely spaced lines of soldiers, allow for greater mobility.
Repel Cavalry: The formation goes something like this, the first ranks make a firm wall with only their pila protruding. Then the second rank will make a wall with their spears, and drive any attackers on horseback away.
The Orb: A defensive position in the shape of a circle, taken by a unit in desperate straits. This type of defense requires a very high level of individual soldiers.
